The 4.6x30mm:

Introduction:

When the NATO interest in personal defence weapons (PDW) was growing, Heckler & Koch decided to develop a new PDW which became the MP7 PDW. The MP7 PDW was made for the same market as the Belgium FN made P90.

The cartridges for this arm were developed and produced (in coöperation) by the Royal Ordnance Radway Green.

The cartridge:

The 4.6x30mm ball round has a 1.6g. copper plated solid steel bullet, a velocity of 725m/sec, and a muzzle energie of 420 Joule. The MP7 and 4.6x30mm cartridge has a bit better performance in comparison with the FN P90 and its SS190 cartridge.

For example the penetration of 1.6mm titanium and 20 layers of Kevlar is for the MP7 >200m as for the FN P90 140m.

The PDW has been approved for service in the German army and is also used by their police force. In the last few years Radway Green has produced a wide range of different cartridges for both police and army use. (see images below)
