Introduction:

The .303" cartridge (7.7x56 R) was introduced in 1888 in Brittish service and has been in use for more then 70 years!!! With all the political and technical changes and challenges (including 2 world wars) the cartridge is developed in a wide range of variations. On the next pages I'll try to show images of all the variations and headstamps used in the U.K. (experimental and approved ones).
